COVID-19 Diagnostics Design-a-thon

Lifepoint COVID-19 State Reporting Hub

With a single connection from a laboratory, device, or application to Lifepoints' Reporting Hub, results are normalized, then routed in real-time to each state jurisdiction via ELR and federal organizations. Our staff ensures each organization stays compliant with all CARES Act requirements.

Features:

  • Automates, Improves content and streamlines reporting
  • Infinite Scalability
  • Vendor Agnostic, can integrate with any system.
  • HIPAA Compliant and Secure
  • Utilizes existing connections to states and federal organizations
  • Web audit tracking and dashboard monitor
  • Simultaneous and Instant transfer of reporting to Federal and State Orgs.
  • Includes LOINC/SNOMED and other mappings required by health organizations.
  • Flexible connectivity: VPN, SFTP, RESTApi, SOAP, LPI SecureAgent
  • Various data formats: HL7 2.3-2.5.1, FHIR, JSON, XML, CSV

About Lifepoint:

For over 20 years, Lifepoint has provided software and technical expertise hundreds of health care systems and laboratories around the U.S. We focus on designing workflows that aid in the adoption of CPOE and results delivery through practice EMR interfaces and web applications.  In response to COVID-19, we have implemented software for the nation’s leading healthcare systems and labs that gets employees back to work, provide patients instant access to their results, and keeps Labs and Antigen test manufactures compliant by delivering critical results to states and federal organizations.

Elevator Pitch

With a single connection to the Lifepoint State Reporting Hub, results are normalized, then routed in real-time to each state/federal org.

Challenge Goals

Accelerate COVID-19 lab and antigen testing reporting to state and federal organizations through our existing ELR interfaces. Lifepoint has partnered with hundreds of laboratories as well as several antigen testing manufacturers.

All inbound interfaces to Lifepoints' Hub and outbound interfaces to downstream systems will be normalized, harmonized, thus relieving users from manual data entry and reporting for diagnostic data elements.

All 31 patient-related data elements required by the CARES Act would be input from the patient or provider, combined with diagnostic data elements, and then automatically pushed to the appropriate public health authorities based on patient's location.

Feasibility

Lifepoint has the appropriate resources and infrastructure in place to start onboarding labs, applications or devices immediately. We could implement several connections to new or existing applications and send to HHS protect within 3-5 weeks.

Design

All data is stored in our tier 4 data centers, encrypted both in motion and at rest, utilizing Triple DES and AES encryption. Each performing laboratory’s data is partitioned into its own cluster in our infrastructure. This process ensures that data can never be co-mingled with another's' data. Within each cluster or namespace, we have a hierarchy of access which allows or restricts user functions based on various user to maximize data security. We also segment patient data based on the ordering physician, client account, location or other factors. When sending data to federal organizations, we de identify key elements to ensure anonymity.

Innovation

Many facilities or vendors have difficulty transmitting all data elements within the CARES Act in the appropriate format. Usually, this is because data cannot be added to fields in the LIS or labs lack technical expertise to accurately report a certain type of data. (e.g., Device ID, LOINC, SNOMED, AOEs, etc.) Lifepoint will consult with each organization and add these data elements via translation tables, hardcode or other natural language processing functionality to ensure complete reporting of testing data.

Lifepoints' technical expertise, execution and experience make us the clear choice to move forward in this challenge.

Flexibility & Scalability

Our SaaS/Cloud infrastructure allows for unlimited scalability with our Hub and spoke architecture. For each downstream state or federal organization, we also have one endpoint interface connection. With this single interface to each performing lab, Lifepoint can route results in the same exact ELR format, modifying key identifiers to notate the performing facility.

When onboarding new labs, antigen devices and applications, Lifepoint is flexible with data formats or input types. We prefer coding to the sending or receiving source’s specifications as it drives efficiency, takes burden off IT staff and improves scalability. Flexible data formats include HL7 2.3 - 2.5.1, JSON APIs, FHIR and flat files such as CSV.

Sustainability & Extensibility

Lifepoint has the proven ability to scale and rapidly onboard new connections. We are experts in lab and diagnostic integration and can support transmission of any reportable condition, test or data set.

As needed by each laboratory, device or instrument, Lifepoint can also build ADT, Practice Management, Orders/Results or any other EMR interface.

Team & Collaboration

Lifepoint team members are comprised Network engineers, Programmers and Project Managers. In response to COVID-19, our team has been devoted to addressing our clients public health needs. We have implemented software for the nation’s leading healthcare systems and labs that gets employees back to work, provide patients instant access to their results, and keeps Labs and Antigen test manufactures compliant by delivering critical results to states and federal organizations.

As it relates to this challenge, Lifepoint remains focused on accelerating reporting and looks forward to showcasing our capabilities.
