Mareedi by AIE Technology Solutions, Inc.

Mareedi is a secure wellness app to generate vitals including Pulse, Respiratory Sounds Monitoring, Contact Tracing and CDC COVID Questionnaire culminating in a daily pass. A user simply places their finger over the smartphone's camera to record a 30 second video, which is then run through the algorithms to produce the vitals; no wearable device is needed. This fosters accessibility as 80% of the US population have smartphones. COVID testing can be ordered directly from the app with positive results flagged. Contact tracing features can be tied into local state apps and be provided to the states that have not yet availed of this service provided by Apple and Google. The anonymized data, including lab/home test results, biomarkers, self reported data, will be pushed directly to WATERS. We have begun development for vaccination inclusion into the daily pass functionality and are working on additional medical biomarkers including COVID detection algorithm, BP, SpO2, heart disease screening, HR variability, respiratory rate, stress/mental health screen, optometry screen, and bloodless labs such as Hemoglobin, Glucose, pH, for which FDA approval will be sought in 2021.

Mareedi: Secure, Daily-Pass Wellness App with Pulse/Respiratory Monitoring, Contact Tracing, CDC COVID Questionnaire, & Lab/Home Test Result

Challenge Goals

The Mareedi app meets the challenge goals by providing an integration solution that allows the ordering and receiving of lab tests, including at-home testing, regardless of company or equipment used in performing the tests. AIETS also has developed its own FHIR based information exchange system, that can integrate with other systems without ready built API’s to directly interface with the WATERS system. The WATERS system would also receive CDC questionnaire data, self reported symptoms, and biomarker data for the individual. Non COVID related information can also be pushed to the WATERS system for further data collection, and examination.

Feasibility

Our MVP will be finalized within 2 weeks as the in-app lab ordering is completed. Our Mareedi wellness app, including biomarkers, has been approved by both Apple and Google. Our SDK has already been embedded into an app for a remote patient monitoring company. We have begun our marketing efforts and already have several interested clients. We’ve been accepted into 2 accelerators (Canada & US), and Mareedi has been featured in 2 winning MIT Hackathon competitions as well as the OHSU inventathon. Our medical metrics (bloodless labs such as Hemoglobin, Glucose, & pH) will be a longer journey and these efforts will continue concurrently with launching the wellness portion of our solution.

Design

Our solution meets WCAG 3.0 standards providing optimal experiences for users with disabilities and is compliant with GDPR and California Consumer Privacy Act.  The interface is modular to provide intuitive process flow on daily data collection and interpretation of the data. The app has been designed to engage the user with the use of a “HulaScore” which is an algorithm that scores the individual's social distancing performance. Data is managed securely through a multi-level encryption process, which ensures the data is unreadable in the event of a breach. Servers to host the data are redundant with regular backups maintained. All data is securely maintained with appropriate processing controls embedded including authentication.

Innovation

Mareedi uniquely leverages a smartphone to identify biomarkers rather than relying on other devices. This wellness data, including respiratory sounds monitoring, and COVID-19 test results generates a “daily pass” or notifies infected persons of isolation to mitigate disease spread. Mareedi’s data-driven approach helps to identify individuals with physiological changes, even without reported symptoms, providing valuable insights for WATERS. Mareedi is also integrated with labs for seamless reporting and conforms to the new FHIR standards. A contact tracing algorithm, HulaScore, measures a user’s social distancing efforts. Anonymization allows researchers to access a rich data set with numerous biomarkers in this fight against COVID.

Flexibility & Scalability

Mareedi is fully app based and approved in the Apple Store and Google Play ecosystems, reaching 80% of the population which utilizes smartphones. No hardware or wearable device is needed to generate wellness data. This solution is compatible with multiple platforms and even has an SDK that can be embedded within existing solutions such as other private, state, and federally sponsored apps. This flexibility allows for the wide scale implementation and rapid deployment of newly developed biomarkers or data collection efforts. Based upon CDC COVID Questionnaire responses, in-app lab ordering is available with positive results flagged. Our FHIR integration fosters information transfer with any system utilizing the standard.

Sustainability & Extensibility

Mareedi is modularly constructed, anticipating evolving needs, such as data collection requirements or new tests, during the pandemic and beyond allowing quick updates to reflect the most current approach. Our AI/ML algorithm will examine the data from user reported symptoms, biomarker collection, and returned lab/home results for data validation. We are currently offering sponsorships to first responders, public k12 schools, and select small businesses with the intent to support safe reopenings, and supporting those in professions at a higher risk of infection. 


 


Additionally, as a minority-owned small business, we are using this data-driven solution to help mitigate racial bias as COVID has disproportionately and adversely impacted minorities.

Thanks Sarah, yes its important to outline that as more data that is acquired we are able to create a clearer picture of biomarkers that can further enhance early detection efforts easily. Another article from Nature:

Trying to understand if there are preconditions met by other software. (In general) 1. How to collect AOEs, from ordering provider/patient/specimen collector 2. Integrate into app/LIS or other information source for patient to be married to results of IVD test device/system 3. All transmitted to public health (ELR) 4. All transmitted to HHS (may be met by 3).

Will your approach support all 4 or only portions of above for "tracking lab results"?



Do you have app, webportal or EHR based data collection and reporting?

Do you support LIS based reporting of ELR in HL7 v2.51 (per the MU IG)? For patient performed results are they routed to the physician who is required to report via electronic Case Reporting (eCR) by law? Is only CDA supported or other messaging formats like FHIR and V2.51 depending on where the reporting occurs

How/where are LOINC, SNOMED CT and other codes systems supported in your messaging to meet requirements? Are you able to collect and transmit IVD vendor UDIs or is this out of scope per your description? Sounds like you may not be able to support COVID test results via IVD kits, but only smartphone biomarkers?

How are CLIA testing requirements met in your system?
